South Africa vs new Zealand

Pakistan have been flattened by a great innings from Pietersen. He was authoritative from the start, hitting the ball very hard, collecting boundaries from bad balls and working the good ones away for singles and twos. Pakistan were a disappointment in the field after scrapping their way to 147, dropping easy chances and missing what should have been a simple run out in the penultimate over. They are not down and out yet, but they will need to search for some inspiration in their remaining games.

Lots of you have questioned Afridi’s tactics in this game, particularly his rotation of the bowlers in the middle overs. Indeed, what Pakistan really needed was for their spinners to get some rhythm with a good spell in the middle, as England’s did, to keep the runs down as England chased a modest target. It is also unclear what Fawad Alam’s role in the side is, as he bats at No. 8 and doesn’t bowl.

“You can’t afford to miss opportunities,” says Afridi, “had we taken the opportunities the match could have turned out differently.”

and on other match Solid all-round performance from South Africa. There were rarely behind in the game once the top-order gave them a good start. Albie, of course, provided the fireworks that propelled them to a big total, which proved 13 too many for New Zealand. For NZ, none of the top five had strike-rates above 120, which meant the lower order had too much to do. South Africa will be pleased with their bowling unit as well: the decision to bring in Botha paid off and Morne continues to show he can be good at Twenty20s.

Pakistan were the last team to overcome Australia at a World Cup and brought Ricky Ponting’s 34-match unbeaten run to an end with a four-wicket victory in Colombo to secure top spot in Group A. An impressive display in the field laid the foundations as the reigning champions were bundled out for 176 on a difficult surface, their lowest total in a World Cup since 1992, and despite a mighty effort from Brett Lee they were guided home by Umar Akmal and Abdul Razzaq.

However , Aussies are always to be a great team to comeback. And , this come back will might effect India in quarter finals.

“The adrenaline will certainly be flowing and playing in front of their home crowd in Ahmedabad will be exciting and a challenge for us,” Nielsen Australian Coach said. “We’ve got no fear now; we know we’re in the knockout stage.

“It’s exciting … a mini-grand final in itself. If you came here and thought, ‘What would be the best result? It would be great to make the final against India’. Well, we’ve got our final against India in the next few days. I’m sure if we’re on our game, they won’t necessarily be looking forward to playing against us. That’s something in our favour.”
