Film-maker and first-time Oscar nominee Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy won Academy Award on Monday for her documentary “SAVING FACE” about acid attack victims, a first for a Pakistani director. Definitely her victory brings Oscar to Pakistan with many questions ahead.

Speaking exclusively to Reuters via telephone from backstage, Chinoy dedicated this award to the women of Pakistan.

Shakira Bit by a Sea Lion

On Sunday , While she was on vacation in Cape Town, South Africa she was attacked by a sea lion .  She just left a message on facebook page with some images :

This afternoon I happened to see some sea lions and seals. I thought to myself how cute they were so I decided to get a bit closer than all of the other tourists and went down to a rock trying to pet them doing a baby talk while taking pictures… Suddenly, one of them jumped out of the water so fast and impetuously that it got about one foot away from me, looked me in the eye, roared in fury and tried to bite me. Everyone there screamed, including me. I was paralyzed by fear and couldn’t move, I just kept eye contact with it while my brother “Super Tony” jumped over me and literally saved my life, taking me away from the beast. We both got our hands and legs scratched by the rocks while trying to protect ourselves. I believe what happened is that it confused the shiny reflection of the blackberry I was taking these pics with, with some sort of fish. It probably thought I was teasing it with food and then taking it away from it. Wow! It’s funny that only half an hour before I was complaining to my guide Andrew that I never get to see wild animals up close on adventurous trips. Oh well, I can’t say that anymore!! Now I’m off to see some penguins! I hope they are a bit more friendly!

The 34-year-old “Whenever, Wherever” singer is just fine. According to her post, Shakira got scratched up when she leaned in to pet the lounging sea lions “doing a baby talk while taking pictures” with her BlackBerry. Not everyone thought this was cute, however: Suddenly, one of them jumped up out of the water, “looked me in the eye, roared in fury and tried to bite me.”

Shakira scraped her palm on a rock when her brother — whom she calls “Super Tony” — barged in to her rescue. It appears the sea lion also retreated into safe waters.

According to Forbes, Leonardo DiCaprio jumped from fifth to first place this year, stealing the spot from Johnny Depp.

DiCaprio’s estimated $77 million in earnings reflect the success of his two big films, “Shutter Island” and “Inception,” which earned a combined $1.2 billion.

Bumped down a peg (although it’s hard to feel bad for him), Depp moved from first to second place with earnings of $50 million, down from his $75 million recorded in Forbes’ previous list.

“Grown Ups” star Adam Sandler ($40 million) and Will Smith ($36 million) were also ranked high, taking third and fourth places on the list.

Tom Cruise brings up the rear at No. 10, pulling in $22 million in the same period, Forbes estimates.

But as if you didn’t need proof Hollywood is a man’s world, Cruise’s earnings would rank him at No. 5 on the highest-paid actresses list for the same year, just between Reese Witerspoon ($28 million) and Julia Roberts ($20 million).

The 10 top actors earned an estimated $375 million between May 2010 and May 2011.

To come up with its numbers Forbes writes that it talked to agents, lawyers, producers and industry sources.

Since opening on Friday, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, took £23 million in the UK and Ireland.

It eclipsed the previous £18 million record held by the last Potter film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1, released last year.

The film, starring Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, took 168 million dollars (£104 million) in the US and Canada from Friday to Sunday, beating the record previously held by 2008′s Batman blockbuster The Dark Knight..

So far, it has taken an estimated 476 million dollars (£296 million) globally.

Josh Berger, president and managing director of Warner Bros Entertainment UK and Ireland, said: “After a decade of Harry Potter films, the final film is truly a cultural phenomenon.

“We are thrilled with this astounding response and we would like to thank all Harry Potter fans across the UK and Ireland.

“These incredible results are a testament to the incredible achievement of the filmmakers, cast, and, of course, JK. Rowling, and will ensure the film series a place in history for years to come.”

Directed by David Yates, the film’s cast also includes Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon and John Hurt.

Is Penelope Cruz pregnant ?

Hollywood beauty Penelope Cruz has sparked pregnancy rumours after she was photographed with what looked like a baby bump on the sets of the latest Pirates Of The Caribbean movie. The actress who married fellow Oscar winner Javier Bardem in July, was resting in between filming scenes with co-star Johnny Depp in the West Indies, reported Sun online.

The 36-year-old Spanish actress has been plagued by pregnancy rumours ever since she started dating Bardem in 2007, but the couple have never addressed the reports.

Cruz and Bardem, 41, who are known to be protective about their private lives, had began dating after playing an estranged husband and wife on the set of Vicky Christina Barcelona back in 2007.

Cruz, is currently filming the fourth film in the Pirates Of The Caribbeanfranchise, which follows Captain Jack Sparrow on his quest to find the fountain of youth.

On his quest he runs into Angelica, played by Cruz, a mysterious woman from his past, who ends up forcing him aboard Blackbeard’s ship Queen Anne’s Revenge, where he discovers the woman and her father are after the same treasure.

Hollywood star Angelina Jolie has come to Pakistan to draw world attention to the plight of 21 million people affected by the country’s worst-ever floods. The Academy award winning actress jetted to Pakistan on a mercy mission for the millions left homeless because of the floods.

‘UNHCR goodwill ambassador Angelina Jolie arrived in Pakistan today to meet people affected by the floods and to highlight the continued urgent need for help,’ the UNHCR agency said in a statement.

This is her fourth visit to Pakistan since she has become a UNHCR goodwill ambassador in year 2001. Talking to the Media, she said : “she is ready to provide Tents, Food, drinking water and Medicine”.

Last week Jolie released a video message appealing for greater public support for Pakistan’s relief efforts, and she has herself donated $US100,000 ($A109,259) to the flood appeal.

The UNHCR is providing relief aid including shelter materials to those displaced by the disaster, which has killed 1760 people by the official toll.
