Posh and Becks named their new arrival Harper Seven after her delivery by Caesarean section in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The unusual name provoked lots of discussion, and David has given his version of how it was chosen in a video posted on his Facebook page.He said: “A lot of thought goes into our children’s names. And Harper was a name that we’ve loved for a long time for a couple of reasons.

“One of them is that Harper is an old English name which we love. And the other reason is that Victoria’s favourite book is To Kill a Mockingbird. The author was Harper Lee.

And Becks revealed there were more reasons for Harper’s surprising middle name than just his England and Manchester United shirt number.

He explained: “A lot of people have just assumed it’s my shirt number, which I wore for many years – and part of it is.

“I had so much luck around wearing that number wearing it for England and Manchester United. It was such an influential number throughout my career and a lucky number. But that wasn’t the main reason.

“The other reason was because it symbolises spiritual perfection. Seven wonders of the world. Seven colours of the rainbow.

“And in many cultures of the world it’s regarded as a lucky number. So we love the name. We love Harper Seven and are very proud of having her in our lives and in our family. It’s an amazing time.”

Harper joins David and Victoria’s three boys Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, eight, and Cruz, six.

And the clearly delighted new dad, 36, is enjoying his family’s expansion.

He said: “We love the name, we love Harper Seven, we’re very proud of having her in our lives, in our family, and it’s an amazing time for our family right now.”

The LA Galaxy ace, 36, said that having a girl in the family was “really incredible”.

He said: “We have three beautiful healthy boys already and are so lucky to have that. And now to have a beautiful girl, having a daughter is a whole new thing.

“Having pink and lilac in the house. You have to be lot more delicate with girls than with boys. I am not used to that so it’s a whole new experience but an amazing one.

“To have that little bundle of joy in your hands and her making her little noises and opening her eyes. It really is an incredible moment for us.”

Triumph unveils 'Support Japan Bra' printed with worldwide messages

Major lingerie maker Triumph International Japan Ltd said Wednesday it has created a special underwear set featuring messages of encouragement sent from the offices of its group companies around the world to lift the spirits of disaster-stricken Japan. The lingerie consisting of a strapless bustier and a matching skirt is called the ‘‘Support Japan Bra’’ and was created as part of this year’s unique concept bra series, which the company releases biannually to reflect social trends of the time, it said, adding they are not for sale.

The company collected handwritten messages from 54 employees at its offices in 36 countries and regions, including Russia, China, France and Turkey, along with relief goods for the areas devastated by the catastrophic March 11 earthquake and ensuing tsunami.

The messages such as ‘‘Japan’s strength and courage is inspiring the world!’’ and ‘‘You’ll make it,’’ written in employees’ own languages are printed along with corresponding flags on the bustier and skirt.

A Triumph official in charge of public relations said the company had thought of voluntarily refraining from releasing the semiannual lingerie series this year but decided to release it. ‘‘We thought it better to deliver our feelings of support through the product,’’ the official said.

Hikaru Kawai, 20, a company model who hails from Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, which was hard hit by the twin disasters, said at a press event held to release the product that ‘‘I hope to help lift the spirits of people in the devastated areas’’ by modeling the special lingerie.

Super Gran Facebook

All grandparents are awesome, that is an undeniable fact of life. But some are more awesome than others, and Lillian Lowe ranks highly in my opinion.

How old is the oldest person you are friends with on Facebook? I’m guessing none will be as old as Lillian Lowe from Tenby in Wales. Because at 103-years-old, she is believed to be the oldest person in the world to use Facebook. Even more amazing is the fact she accesses the social networking site via her Grandson’s iPad.

Already known to her grandchildren as Super Gran, they have now re-nicknamed her Superhighway Gran after she joined Facebook despite being several generations older than the average Facebook user. At the moment Lowe has around 30 friends, mostly family, but with the story of her presence on the site spreading around the Web that is sure to rise. That is, at least, if she decides to accept the mountain of friend requests heading her way.

Lowe told Tenby Today:

It’s a wonderful way of finding out about things, but I must say it’s a dreadful time waster!

Her grandson Steve Lowe, who helped set her up on the site and who lends her his Apple iPad to check it regularly, commented:

What’s great about Gran is that she’s not afraid to take things on and is always willing to learn – she’s a great inspiration to us all.

Lowe is thought to be the oldest Facebook user in the world as the former holder of that title, Ivy Bean, sadly passed away earlier this year at the ripe old age of 104. Bean was also considered to be the oldest Twitter user as well, but though Lowe knows what Twitter is, she isn’t yet using the site. Give it time.

This may be a fun little story on the surface but actually it’s one that demonstrates age is no barrier to using technology and the Internet. The iPad, and tablets in general, could help older people take the plunge and begin to explore computers and the Web. And that is something I’d love to see happen more and more.

MADRID:  10 year old girl has given birth in southern Spain and  authorities are evaluating whether to let her and her family retain custody of the baby, an official said on Tuesday.

The baby was born last week in the city of Jerez de la Frontera, said Micaela Navarro, who is the Andalusia region’s minister of social affairs.

Navarro told reporters the father of the baby is also a minor, and both the mother and the baby were in good health. Her department declined to give further details , such as the sex of baby.

The father of the 2.9-kilo (6.4-pound) baby was 13 years old and had remained in Romania, she said, describing him as her daughter’s former boyfriend.

The young mother “is very well, very well, like the daughter who is very well and very pretty,” Olimpia was quoted as saying.

The 10-year-old, discharged after three days at a hospital in nearby Jerez where she gave birth, “is very happy with her daughter. This is a great joy. It is not a drama,” she reportedly said.

National daily said the number of births to girls aged under 15 in Spain had climbed to 178 births in 2008 from 80 in 1997.

Telenor - Applying Western Culture

Telenor’s new TV commercial ‘internet more” is based on disgraceful words used against women who form more than 51% of the population of Pakistan. Labeling a college girl as “Taza Hawa Ka Jhonka”, it shows the degradation of society as a whole. It is a source of resentment and an assault on sanctity of women for many believing in social values.

The misuse of technology i.e. mobile internet service has been promoted unethically targeting immature minds of college and school going students. Setting aside the responsibility as a corporate entity, telenor preferred immoral language to promote its services among present and prospective users across the country.

“Jisay Moqa Patay hi Talha Nain Kar Dya TAG” is an offensive street language used in Telenor’s advertisement against women. It’s an insult to one’s intelligence and need to be condemned widely.

Multinationals are expected to follow values that show respect to individuals. Whenever they derail from this, they not only offend their customers but also the larger community they operate in. They are least expected to pick the regressive parts of popular culture and give them a lease of life.

Media’s power to influence public opinion is on the rise in Pakistan. The spread of a message has been increased drastically with the coming in of private TV Channels. At this point of time commercial entities promoting goods and service must work with the highest sense of responsibility. Can Telenor avoid letting down those who are struggling for better gender sensitive society in Pakistan?

Begger Girls Selling themselves

KARACHI – Beggar girls are found almost at every traffic signal and market places in the City, but what is not usual this time is the apathy and not noticed the presence of young and adolescent girls, and some of these beggar girls make themselves available.
They are part of a larger crowd of beggars belonging to every age. Of late, their numbers have been on the rise, and they do not look conspicuous in the larger crowd.

The Centre of Excellence for Women Studies, University of Karachi, has conducted interviews with beggar girls at the 17 locations of the metropolis, where they are visible in large numbers including Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Clifton, Landhi, Malir, Saddar, Liaquatabad, Gulistan-e-Johar, FB Area, Sharah-e-Faisal, Mehmoodabad, Jail Chowrangi, Bahadurabad, Tower, Garden, and Cantt Station. The statistics told that 78 per cent of the beggar girls were 12 to 15 years of age, and the next group was 9 to 11 years old while only 9 per cent said they were around 6 to 8 years old.
The largest number of beggar girls, 52 per cent identified cities and districts of Sindh as their places of origin, and the largest group of 21 per cent claimed locations in Punjab from where their families migrated to Karachi. Bangladeshi girls were 9 per cent and 7 per cent from NWFP.
About 52per cent beggar girls said they were Muslims, and those who claimed to be Hindu were 45 per cent while 3 per cent said they were Christians.

About 34 per cent beggar girls said they had been migrated to Karachi and residing here for the last 6 years.
The mother tongue of the largest group of the beggar girls interviewed was Sindhi 51 per cent, while Urdu 2 per cent, Bengali 10 per cent, Seraiki 12 per cent, Pashto 8 per cent, Punjabi 8 per cent, and Balochi 8 per cent.
Majority of the 84 per cent of beggar girls belonged to nuclear families and the other 16 per cent belonged to joint families. When asked how they started begging as a mean of livelihood, 57 per cent said it were their parents and 10 per cent said that their grandfather started it.
The 17 per cent of the beggar girls said they had physical relationship  experience while 15 per cent of admitted it was by their consent, 2 per cent said they went for it on the pretext of getting work. Another 3 per cent disclosed that they were forced, two of them were insulted by their relatives and one said her father sends her forcefully to customers.

Now, this is really a wake-up call for us. Pakistan an Islamic Republic is actually turning out to be addicted land of Alcohol and Sex. We must be serious in this matter , what is happening around us and we are having our eyes close.

A panel of federal advisers will soon wrestle with a question that has bedeviled poets, philosophers and generations of frustrated men: What do women want?

That enigma will be part of a Food and Drug Administration committee’s deliberations on June 18 when it considers endorsing the first pill designed to do for women what Viagra did for men: boost their sex lives.

A German pharmaceutical giant wants to sell a drug with the unsexy name “flibanserin”.

The prospect of the drug’s approval has triggered debate over whether the medication represents a long-sought step toward equity for women’s health or the latest example of the pharmaceutical industry fabricating a questionable disorder to sell unnecessary drugs.

“Achieving a happy and healthy sex life can be a real and important problem for some women,” said Amy Allina of the National Women’s Health Network.

“But we have lots of questions about the pink Viagra.”
