Capello tells Rooney to keep his cool

Fabio Capello has warned Wayne Rooney that his hunger for FIFA World Cup™ glory must be tempered by a cool head if England are to thrive in South Africa.

England’s head coach revealed on Friday that he had felt the need this week to remind the Manchester United striker of the importance of staying on the pitch and avoiding a suspension that could be fatal to England’s campaign.

“Rooney played all the qualification matches and he had no problem with the referee,” Capello told a press conference on the eve of England’s group C opener against the United States. I hope it will be the same Rooney in the World Cup. I spoke with him. He is a fantastic player because he wants to win and the hunger in him is really, really strong. But in this World Cup we have to be careful and respect the referees.”

Concern over Rooney’s temperament has been an ever-present theme for England since the striker was sent off in their quarter-final defeat by Portugal four years ago. The subject has been reignited by his booking for dissent in the squad’s final warm-up match, against local club Platinum Stars here on Monday.

Netherlands Celebrations

Netherlands , finally go through the FIFA World Cup™ Final last night. People were not expecting such a semi-final from Uruguay side but they have played well with so much strong heart.

Germany will take on Spain in the second semi-final in Durban this evening in a repeat of the UEFA EURO 2008 final. The Spanish prevailed then but no team has looked more impressive so far in South Africa than the Germans, who put four past England in the Round of 16 and then dished out similar treatment to Argentina in the quarter-finals. Their upcoming opponents did not look quite as impressive in disposing of Portugal and Paraguay in the same rounds, the European champions edging through on both occasions thanks to opportunistic strikes by striker David Villa.
