PCB TO TAKE ACTION AGAINST AFRIDI
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to take notice of Pakistan’s skipper, Shahid Afridi’s statements regarding the dressing room turmoil and then take action against the captain after the tour report.
Afridi, after his return from the Caribbean, lashed out at the team coach, Waqar Younis, for his interference in the team affairs. The board officials have termed Afridi’s comments as a serious breach of the code of conduct.
Before the 5th ODI of the series, reportedly, there was a row between the skipper and the coach. Waqar and Afridi were at odds as the former was unhappy with latter’s team selection and leadership.
As a result of the rift, Afridi refused to walk onto the field shortly before the start of the game. The timely intervention of the team manager, Intikhab Alam, resolved the issue for the time being. However, Afridi played the game willy nilly and Pakistan lost badly.
At his return from the series two days back, Afridi confirmed reports of the row and said that one person should not interfere in the affairs of the another.
However, Afridi said that he would meet the PCB Chief, Ijaz Butt, and discuss the matter with him in detail.
Before the said meeting, the board officials issued a statement, blaming Afridi for violation of the board rules and hinted at serious action against the skipper.
The final decision about the nature of the action will be taken after analysing the tour report.
The Pakistani team is still in West Indies to play the Two-match Test series that will start from May 12. Since Afridi does not play Test cricket anymore, he has returned home.
Dressing room rows are not new for Pakistan cricket. Critics believe that such rifts are the main cause behind the team’s inconsistency. Pakistan cricket has suffered a lot due to lobbying within the side and the PCB should deal with this issue as quickly as possible.
