Lahore Glitters for Eid Miladun Nabi

LAHORE: The Wazir Khan mosque is decorated with lights on the eve of Eid Miladun Nabi. The mosque was built in seven years, starting around 1634-1635AD, during the reign of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan.

LAHORE: The city is in a festive mood and all set to celebrate Eid Miladun Nabi, as Naat competitions and religious gatherings have been arranged to mark the birth anniversary of Holy Prophet (PBUH).

The Mall, Fortress Stadium, Main Boulevard Gulberg, the Lahore Press Club, Badshahi Mosque, Minar-e-Pakistan, Data Darbar, educational institutions, government buildings and almost all roads have been decorated with lighting arrangements to celebrate Eid Miladun Nabi.

Sweets: The week building up to Rabiul Awal 12 has witnessed Naat recitations being held throughout the city, whereas many are also scheduled for today. The city administration set up banners in the entire city in this regard, while people were witnessed distributing sweets to celebrate our beloved Prophet’s birthday.

Talking to Daily Times, Mehboob Ahmed, a student at Hussain Chowk, said, “This day is different, its like there is peace floating in the air with mosques broadcasting Naat recitations on loud speakers. It really is a special day and its sanctity is evident.” According to a youngster at MM Alam Road, “At present, time flies by so fast that we don’t take a break from worldly matters and ponder over life after death. But occasions like Eid Miladun Nabi should compel Muslims to contemplate their true aim in life. Our country has been suffering from many problems and we should pray for national prosperity and progress on such a holy day.” Eight-year-old Hamza told Daily Times that although it was not Eidul Fitr where he could ask his family for ‘eidi’, but his other family members still gave him gifts on Rabiul Awal 12. “It’s not the actual Eid, but still I manage to get many gifts from my family members and it feels really good to celebrate Eid Miladun Nabi,” he said.

Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) (Operations) Shafiq Ahmed has directed all station house officers (SHOs) to check guesthouses, watch out for suspicious people and ensure constant police patrol in their respective areas. Around 5,000 police personnel would be deployed to ensure security. Sharif also directed the emergency ward of all hospitals in the city to ‘remain alert’ to handle any untoward situation. The police’s Quick Response Force and Mujahid squads were directed to patrol without any break, while the divisional superintendents of police (DSPs) were told to ‘carefully monitor’ the performance of their respective police stations.
